Helping and Caring for Rescued Animals
Rooterville Animal Sanctuary was inspired by farm animals in need, like Stella, and founded on a singular principle: Compassion. We believe true happiness, a better world, and recognition of our religious ideals require compassion and mercy for animals.
Our majestic Rooterville Sanctuary is home to hundreds of rescued farm animals, each of whom came from harrowing backgrounds – narrowly escaping the torment of slaughter that is so common to many farm animals today. Their stories are stories of abuse, neglect, abandonment, cruelty…and then – a second chance.
When I met Stella and realized what smart, gentle, and amazing animals pigs were, I wanted to share them with everyone. Stella changed my life and I knew that she would change other people's lives as well. So we opened Rooterville with the goal of sharing Stella and her story with as many people as possible. By encouraging people to choose a kind lifestyle, eating plant-based foods instead of meat/dairy, we could have the greatest impact on reducing animal abuse, exploitation, and suffering. We cannot rescue all of the animals that need help, I wish we could. But by getting one person to choose a plant-based diet, we can save 100 animal lives EVERY YEAR! That is HUGE. One person makes a huge difference.
I like to say that we may not feel very empowered with our political vote but one place we have tremendous power is with our consumer dollars. Every dollar we spend is a vote for something. Voting with our heart will have the greatest impact on making the world a beautiful, kind, and sustainable place for all of us.

Rooterville was founded by Elaine West in 2004 to care for the many unwanted, abandoned, and abused pot-bellied pigs. Unfortunately, most animal control agencies or Humane Societies will not take in unwanted pet pigs, so many of these former pets end up meeting a gruesome fate simply because no one is there to help.
Since our humble beginnings, Rooterville Sanctuary has grown from 5 to over 30-acres, providing rescue, care, and a permanent home for hundreds of rescued farm animals of all types.
OUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION
Rooterville does not want to see any animal suffer from abuse, neglect, or mistreatment. After rescuing hundreds of unwanted animals and experiencing the deplorable conditions found in factory farms, Rooterville’s mission developed to educate the community on the mistreatment of farmed animals and to encourage people to make compassionate choices by adopting a plant-based lifestyle.
